Client visibility

Goal: understand the two switches that control whether clients can see tasks, and the per-task override.

Two company-level switches, plus one per task

  • Enable Tasks (Settings → Features) — turns the feature on for your company.
  • Show tasks to clients (Settings → Client Portal) — adds a Tasks section to the client portal. Only meaningful once Tasks is enabled.
  • Visible to client — a checkbox on each individual task. A task only ever reaches a client when all three are true: both company switches are on, the task has a client (directly or via a project), and this checkbox is checked.
Purely internal tasks (no client attached) are never visible to any client, no matter how the switches are set — there's no client to show them to.

What a client can do

A client with a visible task can see its status, due date, description, total time logged, attachments, and comment thread — and can post their own comments. They can't change any field, and can't attach files to their comments.
